What is the Mosque Fee (Moskéavgiften)?
The mosque fee applies to all individuals across Sweden who wish to support the Islamic Cultural Center in Lund. It is automatically deducted from your salary via your tax notice.
Before January 1, 2000, when the state and the Church of Sweden (Svenskakyrkan) were separated, the mosque fee was referred to as the church tax (kyrkoskatten).
How much do I pay as Mosque Fee?
The Mosque Fee amounts up to 0.7% of your gross income (before taxes) from employment, pension, or sickness benifits.
Who can pay the Mosque Fee via income notice, and how does it work?
Everyone who is 18 years or older, has taxable income, is registered in Sweden, and has filled out the ”Moskéavgift via skattsedeln” form pay their mosque fee through a monthly deduction from their income, just like regular taxes. This is shown on the tax return form/tax declaration that all taxable citizens receive from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) in March/April each year. The Swedish Tax Agency administers the fee, meaning they handle the calculation, billing, and reporting.

Why should I become a member and pay the Mosque Fee?
The Mosque Fee enables the Islamic Cultural Center in Lund to have a stable income, which allows the center to carry out its activities, ensure positive development, provide better services for the entire community, meet the expectations of Muslims, and, most importantly, ensure the mosque’s continued existence.
What is the advantage of the Mosque Fee?
The Mosque Fee is collected by the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), which then forwards it to the faith community (the Islamic Cultural Center in Lund via FIFS).
The mosque fees paid to the Tax Agency will be returned to the Islamic Cultural Center in Lund, after the faith community has deducted an administrative fee.

Can I change my mind after becoming a member?
Yes, through a written request via a specific form available on the FIFS website. To submit the request, a copy of your ID is also required; otherwise, the request will be invalid.
The mosque fee will stop being collected starting the year after the request is received, provided that it was submitted by October 31st of the current year.

The confidentiality surrounding the membership and mosque fee is high, and we take it seriously.
The Swedish Tax Agency keeps information about religious affiliation confidential for 70 years. Tax records are public documents. However, if these documents are released, the information about religious affiliation is redacted.
Both the Islamic Cultural Center in Lund and the faith community FIFS handle your personal data under strict confidentiality, and only by individuals who have taken a confidentiality oath.
